In Focus: Machinery of government changes and maladminstration risks

Date posted:

The NSW Ombudsman has released a short paper looking at some maladministration risks that can arise in the context of Machinery of Government (MoG) changes, and how these risks can be mitigated. MoG changes occur when the Government decides to change the way responsibilities are allocated and structured across departments and other public service agencies. Given recent and foreshadowed MoG changes in NSW, we draw attention to the need for agencies to carefully follow The Cabinet Office NSW advice in its MoG Changes Guide, and note some recent examples from reports of integrity agencies highlighting where things can go wrong.
