This report presents the findings and recommendations of our audit of the NSW Police Force handling of domestic violence-related complaints in 2008. It builds on our 2006 investigation and report on the policing of domestic violence. It presents information from our detailed audit of 289 police complaints received in 2008 that raised domestic violence issues. Our audit found that overall, police respond appropriately when such complaints are made. Importantly, police were willing to rectify mistakes and address poor performance in most cases where this was warranted. This report should send a positive message to victims of domestic violence, their advocates and the broader community.
