Summary

Terrorism (Police Powers) Act 2002 gives special powers to police and other agencies to deal with suspected terrorist acts. The Act requires that the Ombudsman keeps under scrutiny the exercise of preventative detention and covert search warrant powers and report to Parliament after two years. The report focuses on how the legislation has been implemented by the relevant agencies and whether those who are exercising the powers comply with their legislative obligations.
