Summary

In 2014 the Ombudsman completed a review of the operation of the offence of continuing to be intoxicated and disorderly in public (section 9 of the Summary Offences Act 1988). This section provides for police to issue a person with an on-the-spot fine or charge the person for continuing to be intoxicated and disorderly after the person has already been given an opportunity to comply with a formal move on direction from police.

Our final report was tabled in Parliament in 2014.
